What is NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme funds reasonable and necessary supports for eligible Australians with a permanent and significant disability.
The NDIS helps you pursue your goals, build skills, increase independence, and participate in community, work, and daily life.
Who is eligible?
You may be eligible if you:
- are under 65 when you apply
- are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
- have a permanent and significant disability that affects everyday activities
- live in Australia
- need supports now to reduce future needs
How NDIS budgets work
Your plan can include three budget types:
- Core – day-to-day support (personal care, community access, transport).
- Capacity Building – building skills and independence (life skills, training, programs).
- Capital – assistive technology and home modifications (requires quotes/assessments).
Your NDIS journey (simple steps)
- Access – apply and provide evidence (diagnosis, functional impact).
- Planning meeting – talk about daily life, goals, what works, what doesn’t.
- Plan approval – budgets are set.
- Using your plan – choose providers, sign service agreements, start supports.
- Review – usually every 12–24 months, or sooner if your needs change.
